Heppenheim, the seat of administration for the Bergstrasse district, lies at the edge of the Rhine valley, which is responsible for southwest Germany´s notably mild climate.
With its ideal location surrounded by the cities of Darmstadt, Heidelberg and Mannheim, Heppenheim - ”the Pearl of the Bergstrasse”, is part of the greater Rhine-Main und Rhine-Neckar metropolitan regions. The city is characterized by its picturesque historic city centre, which is the starting point for excursions to Odenwald, a local recreation area and UNESCO Geopark and the nearby Palatinate region with its natural landscapes. Lorsch Abbey, a UNESCO world cultural heritage site, is just a few kilometers away.
Heppenheim’s outstanding economic infrastructure was long dominated by cultivation of fruit and viticulture. Wine of outstanding quality has flourished here for 1250 years.
